New Sound Walk feature added

I have just added a new feature to this website and will be more active on here in the future. I used AI to generate a new type of simpler geolocated soundwalk. This is web based and can work on any device with GPS. The sound only plays in the specific location. So in this case it is made for Nathaniel Davis Park in Brunswick Maine in the upper grassy area at the back of the park. I have since added new “bindu” or center of the mandala location for four other sites besides this initial one, with more to come. Please reach out if you have an interest in adding a large flat park area of 150 meter square area that I could add to the list of new sites.

This is a reworking of some initial work I did in Josh Kopeček’s amazing soundwalk content creation tool that can be found at: http://echoes.xyz If you are interested in this sort of work I can highly recommend checking it out. To be a creator in that system is an ongoing subscription cost of around $55 a month. Just a little bit more than I can continue to afford since I have no intention of commercializing my work and have asked several times for a artist’s discount or whatever to no avail.

Now that I am becoming well versed in using AI to technically assist me in creation. I discovered I was able to use Google’s Gemini to generate a webpage realization of my pieces that I have been peppering across the USA (soon in other countries as well). This piece based on the concept of a user guided meditation walk. I choose a fundamental frequency of 108 Hz (2 octaves below 432 hz) and then using James McCartney’s truly interesting experimental work “Sound As Pure Form” https://github.com/lfnoise/sapf I generated a series of overtone rich sample on all the major just intervals in a diatonic scale. Below is Ben Johnson’s realization of such a scale in the bass clef with an A 1/1 with a frequency of 108 Hz.

This piece is based on an examination of sacred geometry found in the Sri Yantra and the number 108 Below this text is the image of the piece as rendered in a park in Brunswick Maine. One of many I have been placing around using the echoes.xyz application. Once I finish with the web based version, I will be replacing all these and posting the pointers and discussion of each placement in future articles on here with some “advertising” on social media as well. So, Instagram, Facebook, X, Discord, Threads etc. I have already updated it for a location in South Freeport and made it so I can redefine the sound files played to add new timbres and ideas.

Finally, a few words on the choice of 108 Hz as the 1/1 frequency that is driving this piece. The integer 108 has many associations across time and culture and so it was interesting to discover, with all the interest in some circles regarding 432 Hz, that if you drop that frequency by 2 octaves you get 108 Hz. The frequency of 108 Hz is widely celebrated in sound healing and meditation circles because it is deeply tied to the sacred integer 108, a number representing cosmic and spiritual completeness across ancient traditions. Recent interest in its harmonic counterpart 432 Hz—exactly two octaves above 108 Hz—has surged in alternative tuning movements as a preferred concert pitch believed by proponents to resonate with the natural geometry of the universe. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The number 108 holds exceptional reverence globally, particularly within Dharmic traditions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Rather than being a random figure, ancient mystics and modern numerologists view it as a mathematical blueprint connecting the macrocosm of the universe to the microcosm of human biology: [2, 5, 6]

  • Cosmic Alignments: Remarkably, the average distance from the Earth to the Sun is approximately 108 times the Sun’s diameter. Similarly, the distance between the Earth and the Moon equals roughly 108 times the Moon’s diameter. This unique ratio causes them to appear the same size in our sky. [7, 8]
  • Astrological Rhythms: In Vedic astrology, the matrix of existence is mapped by multiplying the 12 zodiac houses by the 9 planets, yielding 108. [7, 9]
  • Human Anatomy: Ayurvedic tradition teaches that the human body houses 108 marma points (sacred intersections of life force or prana). Sound practitioners also point out that the heart chakra is formed by the intersection of 108 nadis (energy lines). [1, 9, 10, 11]
  • Ritual Practice: Due to these properties, traditional Mala Beads used for japa meditation consist of 108 beads. Chanting a mantra 108 times represents a full symbolic journey toward the divine self. [1, 2, 9]

In sound therapy, 108 Hz is used as a foundational tone for deep relaxation, chakra balancing, and neural entrainment. [12]

  • Brainwave Entrainment: At 108 Hz, the frequency sits near the transition zone between high Gamma waves and low hyper-gamma ranges, which are associated with peak cognitive processing, heightened perception, and deep meditative states.
  • Sonic Meditation: Meditative tracks available on platforms like Insight Timer rely on 108 Hz pure tones to ground the nervous system. Listening to this fundamental note is believed to quiet the mental chatter (“monkey mind”) by mirroring the geometric harmony found in the external universe. [2, 13, 14]

Multiplying 108 Hz by two yields 216 Hz (one octave up), and multiplying it by two again yields 432 Hz (two octaves up). This mathematical connection directly fuels the modern fascination with 432 Hz tuning. [4, 15, 16]

  • The Tuning Debate: The current global standard for tuning instruments fixes the note A4 at 440 Hz. Proponents of the alternative tuning movement argue that 440 Hz is an unnatural, aggressive frequency standard. Instead, they advocate for shifting to 432 Hz, claiming it sounds warmer, softer, and inherently more harmonious to the human body.
  • Natural Vibrations: Advocates argue that because 432 Hz maintains the fundamental harmonic ratios of 108, it aligns cleanly with the Fibonacci Sequence and the golden ratio.
  • Scientific Backing: While spiritual claims about 432 Hz repairing DNA are unproven, preliminary research published on PubMed indicates that music tuned to 432 Hz can induce a marked decrease in heart rate and respiratory rate compared to 440 Hz. This suggests the octave-based frequency does have a distinct, measurable calming effect on human physiology. [3, 15, 17, 18, 19]
