A rare opportunity to interview Carla just after the keynote address she gave at ICAD in 2017. She gave an amazing speech, a must listen for anyone interted in this field. Working in the field of sonificaiton since the mid 1990's so it was great to finally sit down and have a discussion.

Educated at the University of Illinois (DMA, MCS), she studied composition with Salvatore Martirano, John Melby, Herbert Brün and Scott Wyatt and computer science with Ralph Johnson, one of the Design Patterns “Gang of Four.” She received the Distinguished Alumnae Award for invaluable contributions to the field of music from Texas Tech University where she earned her master’s degree in music and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of New Mexico. Gregory Kramer is a composer, scientific researcher, author, entrepreneur, and teacher. He is a founding figure in the emerging field of Sonification and published the first book in this area,”Auditory Display: Sonification, Audification and Auditory Interfaces” (Addison Wesley) The definition of sonification that everyone studying this field reads was written by Greg.
